Zora Wan's Art Space
Welcome to my art space. I was born and raised in Shanghai China and came to the United States in my 20s. During the journey from the East to the West (China to the US) and the West to the East (California to Georgia), I came to appreciate the beauty of our everyday life that exists in all the places I have lived - whether it was the hustling kitchen in a local restaurant in Atlanta, GA or the sight of the ocean in Big Sur, CA. I write poetry. I create artwork with different mediums such as pencil, acrylic oil, acrylic plastic, and photography. These creative activities help me capture the graceful and memorable moments in my life.
The habit of creation came to fruition after my 92-day trip in summer 2019. Journey to Passion is a collection of poems and artwork about relaxation during this trip. After ten countries and territories, my senses have been awakened in this worldly experience. A well-known Chinese writer Can Xue once said, "There is indeed an unfathomable lake in the heart of every person." As I explored this boundless and abyssal lake of mine, I started to hear more clearly the voice of my heart – it is my purpose to reveal the mystery of life and to share it with others. As I search for the truth behind words and art, I want to unveil a world of invisible forces that is beautiful yet tangled with human emotions. In order to see this layer of truth, we have to be still with our hearts. I hope you will experience meditative relaxation as you read through these poems and illustrations about my own personal journey.
After this trip, I still work a regular job as a Finance leader, however, in a family of non-profit organizations with a more meaningful purpose. I am helping these organizations grow more sustainably to serve the community of families with autism. At night, I continue to write poetry and use visuals to speak the language without words. I have finished two Children’s Books’ illustrations. Now, I am working on my second poetry and art book: The Sound of Nature. My husband Kevin, my seven-year-old daughter and I currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area. We still travel extensively whenever we can to enrich our life experience.
